7 April 2009

We were delighted by the attendance at the first in our series of workshops providing valuable advice on how to strengthen and protect your business through the downturn. The breakfast workshop was held at Pearse House in Bishop’s Stortford on Thursday 2nd April and was hosted by Insight Associates and NatWest, and run in conjunction with the Herts & Essex Observer.

Over a working breakfast delegates were able to listen to, and participate in, talks by Insight Associates’ Managing Director Garry Mumford and Bill Butler, Director of Commercial Banking at NatWest.

Bill delivered a review of the current credit situation and tackled questions on the availability of loans and overdrafts. He said that, contrary to popular belief, his bank was very much open for business, having lent considerable amounts of money to businesses in the region in the past quarter. His frank and honest appraisal was well-received by delegates.

Garry Mumford spoke in depth about how to improve cashflow, speed up payments from clients and how to avoid bad debts. He also highlighted the government support that is currently available for businesses and covered the legal issues relating to insolvency.

Both speakers emphasized that the better-informed and prepared businesses were, the more likely it is that applications for bank support would be successful.

Delegates were enthusiastic about the presentation, Alastair Richardson of Anglia Business Resources, described the workshop as: “An excellent dissertation on an area of business most of us overlook. It breathed life into a lot of ‘dull’ figures.” Whilst Danny Doyle of Pearse House also said it was ‘excellent’ and went on to say: “A good explanation for the remedial beginner! Clarified a number of issues, in particular the balance sheet and credit gap.”

We also offered  delegates two weeks’ free telephone support and a practical workbook full of useful tips and ideas that delegates could put to practical use straightaway.

We are currently planning further dates in other parts of the region. Those interested in receiving notifications of future workshops should contact us on 01279 647447 or email
