Most businesses are already feeling this – just not where they expect.
The other day, Cara walked into the office looking exasperated.
“I couldn’t believe it,” she said. “I just filled up my car – £1.93 a litre. It’s getting ridiculous.”
That was all it took.
Within seconds, the whole team was swapping petrol horror stories – each one somehow worse than the last. Prices creeping up… then jumping… then somehow higher again the next time you fill up.
It would have been funny, if it didn’t feel quite so relentless.
You’ve probably noticed the same thing. It’s hard to miss. Over the past 12 months, the cost of unleaded has risen by 16.6%. Diesel has climbed even faster, up 31.7% (correct at time of writing).
What’s less obvious is how much this affects businesses – including, potentially, yours.
Some impacts are easy to spot. Airlines, haulage firms, logistics companies – fuel is a major line in their cost base, and they’re used to managing it.
You might be thinking, “That’s not us. We don’t rely on transport in the same way.”
And you may be right.
But that doesn’t mean you’re insulated.
If any of your suppliers rely on fuel – whether that’s transporting goods, importing parts, or simply getting products to you – their costs are rising right now.
And sooner or later, those increases tend to get passed on.
Which means your costs start creeping up too… often without a clear line of sight as to why.
So what do you do about it? How do you stay in control when costs are shifting beneath the surface?
That’s what I’ll cover in my next email.
In the meantime, if you’re concerned about rising costs – or simply want a clearer picture of where your business stands – we can help.
We work with companies like yours to give you a full, accurate view of your finances, so you can make confident decisions about where to cut back – and where to invest – based on real data, not guesswork.
If that would be useful, email garry@insightassociates.co.uk or call us on 01279 647 447.
We’d be happy to arrange a no-obligation conversation to talk through your situation and how we might help.
Warmly,
Garry
