Although Christmas has come and gone, our house is still buzzing with the joy of the festivities…
We’ve had a stream of guests coming through our doors. Each morning, I make my way downstairs and I ask Thelma, “Who’s next?”
The truth is, it’s been nothing short of delightful! 😊
A special mention to my granddaughter Eve, who at the tender age of 11.5 months has definitely been the star attraction. Whoever suggested bypassing children and going straight to grandchildren was onto something! They’re incredible fun.
Still, after eight or nine years of writing this email, I’ve never even missed a week. And I don’t want to start now. So I’ve snuck away from all the hullaballoo to send you this missive.
As the year comes to a close, I want to thank you for your unwavering support. Writing my blogs is a labour of love, but what really makes it worthwhile is the interaction from my readers who read them, write back to me, contribute ideas… And even occasionally become clients.
My core belief is that every company owner needs to understand their numbers in order to be (and feel) in full control of their business. I hope that over the past year, my blogs have helped bolster your financial knowledge…
…And helped you understand the kind of financial information you should be demanding from your accountants if you really want to make financially astute decisions.
Here are some of my favourite pieces from 2023, which I believe are worth revisiting:
>> Why you can’t expect your accountant to be proactive – Many business owners get frustrated that their accountants are not ‘proactive’ enough. You’re right to expect it – but not from your accountant! – Read the piece here. (And here are two more pieces expanding on this idea.)
>> How Amazon decides whether its products are viable – Its process is called “working backwards,” and there’s a lesson here for every ambitious business owner! Read more now.
>> So what? If your accounts don’t answer this question, they’re not useful. Check out the piece now.
>> My marriage secret – revealed – My 40th wedding anniversary contains an important financial lesson. Read it here.
>> Why I don’t believe in ‘year ends’ – If your accountant is doing their job, your accounts should be in order every single month. Are yours? Click here to read the piece.
Enjoy! And here’s to a wonderful, profitable, high-growth 2024 –
Warmly,
Garry
