I miss the days when my kids were young, and wrote a wish list for Santa.
Their lists could include anything from Thomas the Tank Engine to weird items like a barometer (well, I guess my son did grow up to be a scientist), pets, dolls, “jewerly” (sic), hula hoops and one memorable year, a request for £500.
It was always an interesting insight into what was going on in their heads and what they really thought would improve their lives. Where possible, Santa actually delivered. (Alas, not the £500.)
What if business owners also put together a ‘Company Santa Wish List’…?
I think it would be a useful idea.
Take a few minutes to write down the key items that you’d really like to have in place in the near future, to push your business forward or to make your life much easier. What would make the biggest difference to you?
Would it be more salespeople…?
Diversifying your client base, so you’re no longer so dependent on a few big accounts…?
Or perhaps something financial – like having more funding in place so you can pay for some critical initiatives…
Or understanding your cashflow better so you had more clarity on when you could spend money, and when money was going to be tight…?
Don’t feel restricted by what you feel you *should* have and free your mind from what you’ve already decided will happen next year. Just write down what you really need and want – in your heart of hearts.
Now, unfortunately we know what our young kids don’t – that Santa won’t deliver. Sorry to break the news 🙂
But you’re not exactly powerless here. As the business owner, you have lots of control over the direction and future of your own company. So what can you do differently in 2023, to make that wish come true?
Be your own Santa. Make your own life better and easier.
And if your wish is about improving the way you manage your cash, let us be your helper
Merry Christmas and happy holidays,
